The martingale collar was originally designed for dogs whose neck is wider than their head, such as greyhounds, but nowadays the martingale collar is also used for all kinds of dogs. For example for fearful dogs who can wriggle out of a normal collar when they start panicking.

The martingale consists of a big and a small loop. The big loop goes over the head and around the neck and you attach the lead to the D-ring of the small loop. When the martingale fits correctly, there should be a couple of centimeters between the D-rings of the big loop when the collar is pulled tight so it is nearly impossible for your dog to escape. When the collar is not pulled thight it just rests loosely around the neck.

In order to select the correct size for your dog it is necessary to know the neck size of your dog. You'll find guidelines at the bottom of this page 'measuring dog collar'. For example: when your dog's neck size is 37cm, then you choose 'Martingale collar size M (36-45cm)' below. When ordering your collar you can also fill out your dog's exact neck size.
